Get to Grips With Rockingham's New Track Day
2012-07-28

CAR enthusiasts will soon be able to get to grips with a new and unique Rockingham-run track day being offered at the Northamptonshire circuit next month (August).

Utilising the circuit's low friction Wet Grip area, the new Rockingham track day provides the opportunity to improve handling techniques while mastering the art of the power slide in a fun and safe environment.

The state-of-the-art facility has proved a popular addition to the circuit's track day, and as a result of customer feedback, Rockingham has designed a new package based solely on the Wet Grip.

With a combination of its low grip surface, hydraulic kick-plate and water curtains, which can be randomly programmed with 19 different settings, participants will have fun driving in extreme weather conditions such as ice, rain and even the effects of wet leaves.

Rockingham Events Co-ordinator, Will Thomas, said: "The introduction of the Wet Grip area on our car track day has proved very popular with participants, however they all enjoyed it so much they wanted more time.

"Following the feedback, we decided to trial a dedicated track day which focuses on the Wet Grip area. If the event proves a success we will make it a permanent fixture on our track day calendar.

"The Wet Grip is a fantastic facility providing participants the chance to understand the capabilities of their vehicles in ways which they wouldn't be able to do on the road, however the main aim of the event is to have fun!

"The adrenalin will certainly be pumping as you master the power slide and perfect donuts as the combination of the low grip surface, water walls and kick-plate will make you feel you're out of control, when in reality you're in a safe controlled environment."

Two of Rockingham's experienced instructors will be on hand to provide the lowdown on the best techniques to ensure participants enjoy themselves and get the most out of their time on the Wet Grip.

The first event will be held on Sunday, August 5, and will be split into two three-hour sessions for a maximum of 15 participants. Places cost just £99, which includes full medical and safety cover, and can be booked online at www.rockingham.co.uk.
